Saturday, November 15, 1947 was a brilliant summer’s day in Sydney.
The deep-seated jubilation from the end of the war just two years prior, the high, blue sky produced a euphoric mood at the Sydney Cricket Ground. But on that afternoon, what contributed most to the air of gaiety and celebration was the sight of 13 figures clad in white scattered across the green lushness. The cricket was a reaffirmation of normality after the turmoil and uncertainty of the depression and the war years, but this afternoon in particular, a sense of expectation was building… Australia’s hero Don Bradman was at the crease, and at the other end, ‘the nugget’… Keith Ross Miller, Australia’s greatest ever all-rounder. Miller was on (score), and playing his normal cavalier innings … but all eyes were on Bradman that afternoon. His score stood on 99. But this was to be no ‘ordinary’ century from the Don, the expectation was at a peak because with his next scoring stroke, Don Bradman would record his one hundredth first class hundred. Amarnath of India loped in and pitched the ball on leg… Bradman leant forward, pushed the ball to mid-on calling Miller through … and history was made.
Now, a very special limited edition masterpiece has been released, featuring the personal signatures of Sir Donald Bradman and Keith Miller.
'From The Hill, Bradman-Miller' is a superbly realised limited edition print mastered from an original oil painting that captures an Australian sporting milestone with a rich palette… blending technical skill and a relaxed pleasing style.
