The Greatest Cup Never Run was a concept created to celebrate and honour the 150th running of the Melbourne Cup in 2010. The Greatest Cup Never Run is a mythical race made up of the greatest ever 24 winners of the Melbourne Cup. The field was created after Racing Victoria Limited’s chief handicapper Greg Carpenter completed the most challenging task of weighting the 143 individual winners of the Melbourne Cup in its 149 year history. The final field of 24, which included Phar Lap as the top weight, was forwarded to a panel of 22 racing experts to vote on their finishing order taking into consideration the weights and the official barrier draw conducted by RVL. Equine artist Brian Clinton painted the mythical scene featuring these legends of the turf as if they had been brought together through time to run the greatest cup ever. The scene is set on Flemington’s famous home straight and features each of the runners in the finishing order as determined by the expert panel. The people’s champion Phar Lap won The Greatest Cup Never Run followed by Carbine. Third place went to modern day legend and three time winner Makybe Diva.Limited to a release of 1500 only and Officially licenced by the VRC.Available fully framed in quality timber in black,mahogany/gold, silver or gold.
